2010 Christmas Letter

Merry Christmas 2010!

At this lovely, white (and very cold) time of year, we are happy to celebrate Jesus Christ’s birth, life, atonement, and resurrection. We are grateful to know that He lives! We are also happy to celebrate you, our family and friends, as well as the wonderful memories of this year!

Kallie, our almost 7-year-old, has celebrated a great year of firsts; her first ski trip, first lost tooth, first soccer team, first of many Magic Tree House books, first piano recital, first joke book, first magic trick, first experience having her own room, and, last, but not least, first grade! She loves school, especially art, PE, hot lunch, and reading (partly because Mom comes to help once a week, mostly because she loves to read). One of our most happy memories of Kallie this year happened as she experienced her first attempt to fly. If anyone can figure out a creative way to fly, it is Kallie, so we weren’t too surprised to find her dawning her costume butterfly wings, hopping on her bike, and pedaling down the sidewalk as fast as she could, dreaming herself up, up, up in the air! We love Kallie’s creative spirit! She is a sweet and special girl and we feel so blessed to have her in our family.

We aren’t sure which activity our almost 5-year-old E. M. M. A. is enjoying more, spelling or math! It is so fun to hear Emma call out, “D. A. D., what is 100+10+2?” and hear (and see) her answer with a big smile, “112!” When Emma isn’t spelling or asking math questions, she is busy nurturing, loving, and playing with Lia, her baby dolls, and any other toy or stuffed animal around her. A few weeks ago while shopping at Kohl’s we fell trap to the $5.00 plush animals right by the registers. Kallie and Emma both chose the popular “Mr. Grinch”. Though not normally known as a soft cuddly toy for girls, this Grinch was the exception, as he quickly found his way home, was wrapped in a blanket, fed a bottle, and rocked to sleep. He has since become one of Emma’s many babies! We adore Emma’s nurturing spirit and love having her in our family!

Our almost 3-year-old Lia Kate Lund, as she introduces herself, has also had a big year! Her hair and vocabulary have really grown this year! We love to hear her talk about her “dollses,” “mermaidses,” and “babieses.” We also love to hear her talk about her “sikky cup,” “Christcrim”, “noonles” and her two favorite characters, Ariel and, very recently, Mr. Grinch! We just laugh when she clinches her teeth together and starts singing, “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch!” It is so great! One of our favorite memories of Lia this year happened repeatedly as we read The Little Mermaid book together. Lia likes to pretend she is Ariel, her dad is Prince Eric, and Mom is none other than Ursula. We laughed every time Prince Eric (Dad) and Ursula (Mom) fought to the death! Lia was always happy at the end of the story when Ursula was gone and Prince Eric and Ariel got married. We love our Lia and are so grateful to have her in our family!

Andy, as always, is the hero and Prince for all of the girls in our home! We are so blessed to have such a reliable, loyal, handsome and spontaneous Prince in our family! He works so hard and takes great care of us! Andy continues to be a fantastic teacher and tennis coach...… in fact (just bragging a little) he received the USU College of Education Alumni of the Year award this year! Way to go, Andy! Somehow he snuck a little fun in this year, too! He summited the Tetons again, ran the Top of Utah Marathon (his tenth marathon!), fished, four-wheeled, and flew (piloted a friend’s plane–the one behind us in the picture). He is interested in having more fun flying planes next year, too!

Luckily, Katie hasn’t done much of anything this year expect have LASIK surgery, chop her hair off, and happily dream up Primary lessons and activities (she is serving as Primary President right now so if any of you have coping strategies for husbands of Primary Presidents, Andy would love to hear them!). Katie has also really enjoyed her occasional opportunities to craft, blog, and read!

We have been so blessed this year! We are grateful to have such sweet family and friends! We thank you for your friendships! We hope you are healthy and well! May God bless you at this special time of year and always!

Andy, Katie, Kallie, Emma, and Lia
